Ava joined Davies Howe LLP in 2003 as a litigation partner. Her practice is focused on commercial litigation, with a large insurance component, and on expropriation law. She has appeared before all levels of courts and tribunals in Ontario and Quebec.
As the majority of litigation and expropriation files are now resolved through mediation, she has negotiated settlements in files ranging from minor matters to multi-million dollar claims for clients, both large and small. Ava is member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Expropriation Association and a Governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation.
Ava completed a Bachelor of Arts at McGill University and a Bachelor of Civil Law at the Université de Montréal. She earned a Bachelor of Common Law and a Masters in E-Business Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Ava taught civil litigation at the Law Society of Upper Canada for nine years and has been invited to speak at legal conferences across the country on a broad variety of topics ranging from directors and officers liability to the use of social media and the internet in the courts.
In her private life, she is an active volunteer with a number of charitable organizations and enjoys travel, theatre and music.
